6. Oji Zoo, Kobe, Hyōgo, Japan - home of Kou Kou (M), Tan Tan (F)

Tan Tan (female) was born on September 16, 1995. She came from the China Research and ConservationCenter for the Giant Panda in Wolong to the Kobe Oji Zoo on July 16, 2000. Tan Tan & Ko Ko came to Japan on a 10 year loan. Her birth name given in China was Dan Dan.





Ko Ko I
Ko Ko (male) came from Wolong to Kobe on July 16, 2000, together with Tan Tan. His birth name was Jin Zhu. He was sent back to China in 2002 because of his lack of reproductive tendences.

Ko Ko II
Ko Ko (male) was born on September 14, 1995. He came from Wolong to Kobe on December 9, 2002. His birth name given in China was Long Long. Ko Ko means recovery ("fukko") from the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake, which wreaked havoc on the port city. The city of Kobe decided to name him Ko Ko when he arrived in Kobe because the "original" Ko Ko took his birth name of Jin Zhu back when he returned to China.

On August 12, 2007 Tan Tan gave birth to a stillborn cub

Cub 2008
On August 26, 2008 Tan Tan gave birth to a cub. It was worldwide news, the first cub born in Japan after artificial insimination in 20 years. But the cub died on August 29, 2008...

8. Adelaide Zoo, Adelaide, Australia - future home to Wangwang (M) and Funi (F). They will arrive in 2009.


Panda Exhibit

9. Zoologischer Garten Berlin, Berlin, Germany — home of Bao Bao, age 27, the oldest male panda living in captivity; he has been in Berlin for 25 years and has never reproduced.










10. Tiergarten Schönbrunn, Vienna, Austria — home to Yang Yang (F) and Long Hui (M), born in Wolong, China in 2000, and their new cub, Fu Long (M), born on August 23, 2007 at the zoo. The cub was the first to be born in Europe in 25 years.
