Dog gone: Ricky Hatton bought this adorable chihuahua puppy for his fiancée Jennifer Dooley after being discharged from the Cheshire branch of the Priory this week

Ricky Hatton has finally left the Priory after his stint in rehab - and has bought a puppy for his fiancée in a bid to get himself out of the doghouse too.

The Manchester-based boxing star checked into the Cheshire branch of the clinic last month after claims he snorted cocaine in a hotel room.

But one of the first things he did on his release this week was to buy a cute chihuahua pup for fiancee Jennifer Dooley.

On Tuesday, flanked by Jennifer, 31, and looking refreshed and around a stone lighter, the former world champ popped in unannounced to a pet shop in Swinton near Manchester to pick up the pooch.

Store manager Chris Hunter, 42, revealed it was the second time Ricky had visited.

She said: 'I'd just come back from my lunch break and walked past him and his girlfriend. I didn't realise who it was at first.

'They were looking at a shih tzu but then they saw the chihuahua and went for that.
'He already has a shih tzu called Franny Lee that he got from here about two-and-a-half-years ago and he is really happy with it. He said the new dog would be a companion for it.

'They both posed for pictures and seemed really happy.'

A customer at the store, who did not wish to be named, said: 'He was laughing and joking with everyone and seemed well.'

Before admitting himself to the Priory, Hatton had confessed he was battling depression and an alcohol problem in the wake of two high-profile defeats in the ring.

The boxer - nicknamed The Hitman - has vowed to get better and concentrate on his career out of the ring as a promoter.

A source close to the former light-welterweight and welterweight champion said: 'It's not been the best of times but he is out now and looking much better.
'Jennifer loves dogs and it was something he wanted to do for her.'

He hit the headlines last month after video footage emerged of him appearing to snort lines of the drug at a Manchester hotel during a night out.
