Can we hop on board mum? Cygnets hitch a ride after a tiring swimming lesson

Learning to swim can be a tiring task and for these cygnets their aquatic activity was just that, but luckily their mother was there to help.

The doting swan was teaching her youngsters the art of pond-gliding but let them jump on her back at the end of the lesson.

The two fluffy grey cygnets seemed to prefer snuggling under their mother’s wings than taking to the water and soon settled in for a quick nap.

The family was pictured in Rickmansworth Aquadrome in Hertfordshire, not far from their nest.

Cygnets stay close to their parents for about a year or two to learn important skills like swimming and migration routes, before eventually growing up and choosing mates of their own.

And in other swan news, Britain’s most vicious swan has been caged to stop it attacking Cambridge University students during the historic May Bumps rowing race.

The male bird has been nicknamed Mr Asbo and hissed and scared students rowing at last year's race.

So now the feathered fiend, who has just fathered three cygnets, has been fenced in to prevent him capsizing the rowers and ruining the four-day contest, in which college crews race to catch up with and bump each other.
