Zoos SA chief executive Chris West says there are contingency plans for keeping the animals comfortable.
"We are lining up misting and we are keeping some animals inside to make sure that they are cool enough," he said.
"There are some animals like red pandas that do need to be kept cool."
The Zoo hopes to re-open later in the day.
The blackout was caused when a contractor cut a high voltage cable in Frome Road, just before 8:00am ACDT.
ETSA is trying to get a generator to the Zoo to help it out.
